13-year-old Christiane F. lives with her mother and sister in a desolate high-rise housing estate in Berlin-Gropiusstadt. In order to at least temporarily escape the family problems, she smokes hash and throws trips. But then she switches to hard drugs and takes heroin. She becomes addicted. In the morning she goes to school and in the afternoon she goes to the children's shop at the Zoo train station to get the money for her addiction. Christiane falls further and further into the vortex of drugs and prostitution. And instead of the supposed freedom, the material only brings decay and death, which does not spare even some of her closest friends.
