Pushed to the brink by his father and teachers, Australian piano prodigy David Helfgott (Alex Rafalowicz) has a breakdown during a performance of a Rachmaninoff concerto. Years later, David (now played by Geoffrey Rush on Oscar-winning form) builds himself back up.
