Jean-Baptiste Grenouille (BEN WHISHAW) was born under disgraceful circumstances at the Paris fish market in 1738. He noticed very early on that he had an extremely keen sense of smell. After surviving the grueling working conditions in a tannery as a teenager, Grenouille begins an apprenticeship with the perfumer Baldini (DUSTIN HOFFMAN). He quickly surpasses the master in the art of mixing scents, but scents become his obsession, which leads him to the edge of humane society. Obsessed with the idea of preserving human aroma, he murders without scruples young women whose smell infatuates him. The drama begins when Grenouille, on his way to the perfume metropolis of Grasse, meets the beautiful Laura (RACHEL HURD-WOOD), who smells supernaturally to him. While more inexplicable murders occur, Laura's father, the businessman Richis (ALAN RICKMAN), suspects that his daughter's life is also in great danger. An unequal cat-and-mouse game of deep fatherly love and deadly passion begins...
