Director and screenwriter Glazer was inspired for the film by the book of the same name by the late author Martin Amis. His film illuminates the horrors of the Holocaust from the perspective of Rudolf and Hedwig Höss, the commandant of Auschwitz and his family, who lead an extremely privileged life in their picture-book home, wall to wall with the extermination camp.
